Why I Write Thank You's (and why I think you should as well)

One way to write a thank you

Ingredients:

a book of stamps $9.80
a package of thank you notes
from Target $3.99
a bic pen $.49

Method:

receive a gift
use your memory
write a thoughtful note,
thanking the person for their gift and their time

I was speaking to my cousin about Thank you Notes and how people (women) of a specific era (millenials, duh) simply do not send thank you's.  Now, I know alot of women my age, 36 sigh, who do not send Thank you's as well, so I'm not jumping on some "fuck millenials" bandwagon here, but they certainly send less, if any, than others.  I wasn't raised by a woman who forced me to write thank yous, or had a strict policy in corresspondence, BUT my mother DID teach me that if someone gives you a gift, you THANK THEM. period.  There is no excuse for not reaching out to someone to say thank you for them giving you something. Anything. A beautifully written, even short, note goes a long way.  Hell, if you use college ruled paper with a white, like, business envelope...idgaf.  Make an effort people.  I think it is just unacceptable.  Not only do people not know if you like it, but they dont know if you receive it.

My cousin went on to say that there are so many events that one must "respond" to, that it is just "too much."  To which, I countered with "Naw."  There are few events in life that require a thank you.  Graduations, showers, weddings, bereavments....youre trying to tell me that someone drops off a chicken pot pie to a wake when your Nana passes, and youre NOT gonna send them a thank you? Dude, not cool.
